Wellington Airport runway extension – unleashing potential

31 March 2016, by Dean Croucher

We're passionate about the success of Wellington and its contribution to the economy. Our business contributes to that success by helping organisations make better property decisions that help them unleash their potential. It's in that context that we support the runway extension at Wellington International Airport (WIAL) and gave feedback to connectwellington.co.nz before the February 12 deadline.

We believe that enabling long-haul international flights into the Capital will help people see Wellington in a different, more progressive light. This change in perception will result in a stronger reputation which can be capitalised on both from a business and tourism perspective. People will see opportunity that they turn into ideas and some of those ideas will get to market. That's called growth.

So I think we need to "get on with it" and get the runway extension completed. We shouldn't forget that Wellington is in competition with other cities both at home and in AsiaPac. We fully support the initiative and would also encourage Government to support funding the scheme under certain commercial conditions (given that WIAL is privately owned).

WIAL's application for resource consent to Wellington City Council and the Greater Wellington Regional Council is about to be lodged. The Councils will then start the formal public submissions process. We say to all stakeholders, especially our citizens, be bold, let's go for it and unleash Wellington's true potential!
