New Hub for Porirua Police

Earlier this year, Porirua Police opened the doors of their new Hub in Heriot Drive replacing their old station in Hagley Street. The new facility is an existing, repurposed building created with the local community in mind and designed as a ‘building of welcome’.

TwentyTwo’s Dean Croucher, Chris Ware and Steffi McKeown assisted NZ Police throughout 2019-2020 to negotiate a Development Agreement and Lease for the new Hub.

The project involved adapting an existing office and warehouse building into a modern facility and working with the owner/developer and technical consultants to agree fair commercial terms and an appropriate base building specification for the transformation of the space.

The welcoming space is finished with Māori art and equipped with workspaces kitted out with technology like video conferencing. The Hub’s large conference room – Ruataki Kōrero – works as a base for the region’s major police operations, with the iwi gifting the names of seven rooms including ‘Whakatau Mai’ for reception.

It became operational in December 2020 and was officially opened by the Minister of Police Hon Poto Williams in February.
