Auckland CBD transformation takes shape

Major transformation of the Auckland CBD continues at pace with the demolition of the former Downtown Shopping Centre now complete (above left). For those of us based in Britomart – hopefully this means less dust and noise for a while – albeit parking and public transport will no doubt remain chaotic!

Precinct Properties $681 million redevelopment – to be known as Commercial Bay – will be a 39-level office tower, integrated into the adjoining PwC Tower, AMP Centre, HSBC House and Zurich House due to be completed in 2019 (artist’s impressions above right).

The existing retail centre will be replaced with an integrated retail complex consisting of around 100 shops, plus restaurants, cafés and bars. The retail centre is due to open by October 2018.
